Laconi a contender again
Only a few riders in the World Superbike Championship can count their career race victories in double figures, but the rejuvenated Regis Laconi is one. His win total of 11 has not been added to since the 2005 season, but after a strong pre-race test at PI he went on to enjoy a fantastic raceday on his privateer DFX Ducati 999RS09. He was a battling seventh in race one and then an outstanding fourth in race two. In the second 22-lap contest he was only 0.277 seconds from a podium and 4.9 seconds from the win.

Laconi paid tribute to his new team for putting him in the position to challenge at the front once again.

"I have passed through the hardest period in my career and in Daniele Carli (DFX team owner) I have found a person who has continued to believe in me. To repay his faith in this way is beautiful. Thanks to the team, the team manager and all the sponsors. Today I am a very happy man."

His near podium experience was remarkable considering the level of competition this year, but like any true racer, his satisfaction at scoring good results is tempered with the desire for more. "In race two we found the ideal setting to let me take a podium so I am only halfway happy to have come so close but not quite secure third place."
